Welcome to the website of the XIII EMEP - World Meeting on Teaching Portuguese! (#XIIIEMEP) and II ENNEP (Meeting of Black Narratives in Portuguese), organized by the AOTP - American Organization of Teachers of Portuguese that will take place at Duke University on the 1st and 2nd of August, 2025.

Tema do II ENNEP:

Criatividade Negra e Ensino do Português – Identidade e Transformação

O XIV EMEP reunirá  especialistas, educadores, pesquisadores e líderes comunitários para debater o papel da língua portuguesa como ponte para enfrentar desafios locais e globais e promover soluções inovadoras. O evento abordará conceitos sobre o que vem a ser a sustentabilidade no exercício das nossas funções como incentivadores da língua portuguesa.  O que é sustentável no meio ambiente em que vivemos ou propagamos e como abordar esse tema em nossa prática pedagógica? É importante ressaltar o valor das relações que se baseiam num conjunto de atitudes que valorizam o próximo e o meio em que vivemos.  Nossos estudantes podem e devem se instrumentalizar através da língua portuguesa para a manutenção da paz, da preservação ambiental, da tecnologia inclusiva, da mobilidade humana, e das relações intersociais de forma geral, o que inclui  a cooperação internacional dos países de língua oficial portuguesa. Ao destacar a diversidade cultural e as potencialidades das comunidades , o XIV EMEP promoverá debates sobre o impacto do português na criação de redes locais e globais de conhecimento, para o fortalecimento de iniciativas de sustentabilidade e inclusão no ensino/aprendizagem da língua.

O II ENNEP reúne a produção artística das comunidades negras falantes de português para um diálogo interdisciplinar com autores, professores e pesquisadores, e ainda explorar estas produções como material pedagógico para as aulas de português como língua estrangeira e de herança.

Os apresentadores do XIV EMEP e do II ENNEP  terão a oportunidade de ver suas comunicações publicadas no Portuguese Language Journal, após a submissão de seus artigos a um processo de revisão por pares.

28 de março: envio da confirmação da aceitação das propostas

25 de abril: prazo para os autores aprovados se inscreverem na conferência

25 de maio: apresentação do programa

Facing Challenges: Sustainability, Innovation, and Inclusion – The Portuguese Language in Local and Global Connections

Theme of the II ENNEP: 

Black Creativity and Portuguese Language Education – Identity and Transformation

The XIV EMEP The XIV EMEP will bring together specialists, educators, researchers, and community leaders to discuss the role of the Portuguese language as a bridge to address local and global challenges and promote innovative solutions. The event will explore concepts of sustainability within our roles as promoters of the Portuguese language. What is sustainable in the environment in which we live or spread the language, and how can this topic be addressed in our pedagogical practices? It is essential to highlight the importance of relationships built on attitudes that value others and the environment we inhabit. Our students can and should be empowered through the Portuguese language to contribute to peacekeeping, environmental preservation, inclusive technology, human mobility, and intersocial relations in general, including international cooperation among Portuguese-speaking countries. By emphasizing cultural diversity and the potential of communities, the XIV EMEP will foster discussions on the impact of Portuguese in creating local and global knowledge networks, strengthening sustainability and inclusion initiatives in language teaching and learning.

The II ENNEP brings together the artistic production of Portuguese-speaking black communities for an interdisciplinary dialogue with authors, professors, and researchers, and also explores these productions as pedagogical material for the teaching of  Portuguese as a foreign and heritage language.

Presenters at the XIV EMEP and II ENNEP will have the opportunity to see their communications published in the *Portuguese Language Journal* after submitting their articles to a peer-review process.

March 14th: deadline for submitting proposals

March 28th: sending confirmation of acceptance of proposals

April 25th: deadline for approved authors to register for the conference
